What if you could de-stress in the moment?
What if you could plug energy drains throughout your day and recharge your batteries instead?
What if overwhelm became a thing of the past?
HeartMath Institute research has proven that this is possible - that each of us can simply learn the skills to do it. Why would we want to de-stress and recharge our batteries? Apart from the fact that chronic stress is unpleasant, and negatively affects our relationships and ability to enjoy life, it also has a deleterious effect on our physiological systems and, according to the UK’s Mental Health Foundation, even in 2018, before the pandemic, 74% of people had felt so stressed they had been overwhelmed or unable to cope.
Before I share the most fundamental skills highlighted by HeartMath’s research, let’s look at what causes energy drain to begin with. Can you guess? It’s depleting emotions. What are depleting emotions? Emotions like frustration, anger, overwhelm, shame, embarrassment, anxiety, sadness, depression etc. They’re the kinds of emotions many of us have learned to see as ‘negative’. I prefer the HeartMath often-used term, “depleting”.
If we experience these emotions – even small, niggly irritations throughout the day, they build up and, by the end of the day, we’re fatigued. They deplete our whole system.
What can we do to plug that energy drain and neutralize depleting emotions? Apply a HeartMath technique called Heart-Focused Breathing™. This technique can also be found in spiritual traditions, but the HeartMath Institute has comprehensively researched the measurable effects the technique has on people’s states. Here’s how you practise Heart-Focused Breathing:
Focus your attention in the area of your heart.
Imagine your breath is flowing in and out of your heart or chest area, breathing a little more slowly and deeply than usual.
Find an easy rhythm that’s comfortable.
That’s it. Can’t get much simpler than that, can it?
There’s a reason why giants of personal development like Dr. Joe Dispenza are teaching HeartMath techniques. They’re simple yet profoundly effective in helping us to de-stress and increase the quality of our lives.
Who’s in?! Why on earth not?
